Henry
I tutor IB MYP Computer Science and came into teaching after studying computing and working on small software projects. I’ve been tutoring for three years now. Programming lessons are hands-on: we write short pieces of code, deliberately break them sometimes, and work out why they failed. Python is the language I use most often. I’m particularly keen on algorithms because they teach students to think through a problem before worrying about the syntax.

Leslie
I’ve taught IB MYP Individuals and Societies for nine years and still enjoy the discussions that come out of history lessons. My main interest is modern European history, but I also work extensively with source analysis and research-based assignments. I encourage students to question who produced a source, what was happening at the time and what might be missing. When an essay is due, we plan the argument first rather than jumping straight into paragraphs.

Caitlyn
My background is in English literature, and I’ve spent seven years teaching IB MYP English Language and Literature. I particularly enjoy helping students with close reading because there is rarely just one interesting way into a text. In lessons we might take a paragraph apart, compare two interpretations, then work on turning those ideas into a clear response. I give straightforward feedback on essays and usually ask students to redraft a section themselves.

Manuel
Physics made much more sense to me once I stopped memorising equations and started drawing what was actually happening. That is pretty much how I teach it now. I’ve tutored IB MYP Physics for five years, with a particular interest in forces, electricity and energy. We normally sketch a problem first, decide what information matters, then work through the maths. I’m also happy to revisit basic calculations when they are getting in the way of the physics.

Erick
I teach IB MYP Chemistry and have worked with secondary students for just over eight years. A lot of my tutoring starts with sorting out the fundamentals, particularly atomic structure, bonding and chemical equations, before tackling more involved problems. I’m fairly methodical and like students to show every stage of their working. I also enjoy practical chemistry, so I often use familiar experiments to make abstract ideas easier to picture.

Jazmin
Hi, I’m a Biology tutor with a background in life sciences and four years of experience supporting IB MYP students. I’m happiest teaching genetics and human physiology, although I’ve covered the full course many times. My lessons tend to involve lots of diagrams and questions rather than long explanations from me. For assessments, we practise writing scientific answers that are accurate without adding information the question never asked for.

Taylor
I’ve been tutoring IB MYP Maths for three years alongside postgraduate study, so I still remember what it feels like to get stuck on a problem and stare at the page for too long. Geometry is probably my favourite area to teach. I tend to draw everything first, then introduce the formal method. For assessments, we practise unfamiliar problems rather than repeating ten versions of the same exercise.

Ellie
My background is in chemical engineering, but for the last six years I’ve concentrated on teaching IB MYP Chemistry. I’m particularly useful for students who understand lessons in class but find assessment questions surprisingly difficult. We work through the wording carefully and connect each question back to the underlying chemistry. Acids and bases, energetics and reaction rates are topics I never get tired of teaching.
